How the recommendation works

For a comfortable image, recommended pixel pitch (mm) ≈ viewing distance (m) ÷ 2.5; the coarsest still-acceptable pitch ≈ the distance in metres (the 1:1 rule). We snap the result to standard pitches (P1.2–P10) and adjust for content: finer for fine text, a step coarser is fine for motion video.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far should viewers be from an LED wall?

It depends on the pixel pitch. As a guide, comfortable viewing distance (metres) ≈ pixel pitch (mm) × 2.5, and the minimum (where pixels just blend) ≈ pitch × 1. So a P3 wall reads well from roughly 3–7.5 m.

What pixel pitch do I need for a given distance?

For a comfortable image, recommended pitch (mm) ≈ viewing distance (m) ÷ 2.5. The coarsest still-acceptable pitch ≈ the distance in metres. Finer pitch is sharper but costs more.

Metric rule vs the 10× foot rule — which is right?

They roughly agree. The metric 1:1 rule says pitch (mm) ≈ minimum distance (m); the 10× rule says distance (ft) ≈ pitch × 10. Both are quick estimates — we confirm the exact spec for your project.

Does content type change the pitch I need?

Yes. Fine text and static graphics benefit from a finer pitch; fast motion video looks good on a coarser pitch because the eye fills in the gaps.

Which display type suits my distance?

The calculator suggests one — close viewing points to fine-pitch indoor LED, mid distance to standard indoor or a video wall, and long distance to outdoor LED. Send your distance and we will recommend a product.
